1. The Numbers: A Tale of Two Geographies
Hindalco’s Q3 FY26 results presented a sharp contrast between its resilient Indian business and the disruption-hit international segment.
Consolidated PAT: Fell 45% year-on-year to ₹2,049 crore (vs. ₹3,735 crore last year).
The Oswego Hit: The profit decline was primarily due to a massive exceptional expense of ₹2,610 crore related to two fire incidents at the Novelis plant in Oswego, New York.
India Business Outperformance: On the home front, Hindalco’s India business touched an all-time high PAT of ₹3,581 crore, a growth of 24%, supported by lower input costs and strong domestic demand.
Revenue: Managed to grow 14% to ₹66,521 crore, driven by higher metal prices and volume growth in the copper segment.
2. Why the 6% Slide?
Even though the India business “met estimates,” the market reacted negatively to:
Exceptional Losses: The ₹2,610 crore charge was higher than many analyst projections.
Novelis Outlook: Lower shipments from Novelis (the world’s largest aluminum recycler) raised concerns about global demand and margin recovery in the next two quarters.
Sectoral Sentiment: A broader sell-off in the metal sector and global volatility added pressure to the stock.
3. Support & Resistance Levels
Technically, the stock has broken its immediate support. Here are the levels to watch for the next week:
Immediate Support: ₹900 – ₹905
Major Resistance: ₹975 – ₹985
Trend: The stock is trading below its 20-day SMA but remains above its 200-day long-term moving average.
