Indian stock markets are set for a crucial trading session on March 25, as multiple derivative contracts expire ahead of the market holiday. The expiry has been preponed due to market closure on Thursday, increasing the chances of sharp volatility.

Expiry Schedule Impact

The BSE Sensex weekly expiry has been shifted to Wednesday, along with monthly expiry for Sensex and Bankex contracts.

At the same time, commodity markets will also see expiries in gold and silver contracts, which may add further movement across segments.

Market Rally Before Expiry

On March 24, markets witnessed a strong recovery. The BSE Sensex surged 1,372 points, while the NIFTY 50 gained 400 points, supported by positive global cues and easing geopolitical tensions.

This rally was largely driven by short covering ahead of expiry, which often leads to sharp upside moves.

Volatility Still High

Although the India VIX cooled slightly, it remains at elevated levels, indicating that volatility is still high and traders should remain cautious.

Trading Range & Strategy

For the current series, Nifty is expected to trade in a broad range of 22,000 (support) to 24,000 (resistance).

Due to combined weekly and monthly expiry, markets may witness:

  • Sudden price swings
  • High intraday volatility
  • Sharp moves near closing hours

Market Outlook

With expiry and holiday effect combined, tomorrow’s session is likely to be highly action-packed. Traders are advised to follow strict risk management and avoid over-leveraging positions.
